This ride has a little of everything. The hipness of the east-side, The history of Chavez Ravine, the LA River, the flats of Glendale, then through La Cañada Flintridge to the base of the gloriousness that is the San Gabriel Mountains.
DIRECTIONS
Starting out at Eightfold Coffee in Echo Park and head west on Sunset. Take a right on Vin Scully Ave. You’ll dead end at the Dodgers Stadium entrance so go left on Stadium Way and loop through Elysian Park until it turns into Riverside Dr. in Silverlake. Take a right over the LA River on Hyperion Ave. that will turn into Glendale Blvd in Atwater Village. Take a right on Chevy Chase Dr. until you hit Verdugo Rd. underneath the Ventura Freeway. Go left on Verdugo Rd. and get ready to start feeling the climb into La Cañada. Go right on Verdugo Blvd. (yes it’s confusing) The right again on Foothill Blvd.
NOW the fun begins!!! Take a left on Angeles Crest Hwy. and settle in. Keep climbing until you get to the Clear Creek Rangers Station at the junction of Angeles Crest Hwy. and Angeles Forest Hwy. From here you have the world at your fingertips. You can continue on up ACH towards Mt. Wilson (which we will cover on another route) or bang a left a swing down Big Tujunga (will also cover on another route) but today we will head back down the mountain and retrace our steps to Eightfold Coffee. At the bottom of the hill take a right on Foothill Blvd. Then a quick left on Verdugo Blvd. Left again on Verdugo Rd. Keep right (you’ll have to) on Cañada Blvd. which will turn into Glendale Ave. Right on Los Feliz Blvd. Left on Glendale Blvd. Take this all the way back over the LA River and into Silverlake. Keep your eyes open after you pass the Whole Foods 365 on your left for Silverlake Blvd on your right. Go Right on Silverlake and scoot along the reservoir and when you see the underpass take the little right up Parkman Ave and then go right at the light on Sunset Blvd. Now you are home free. Take Sunset all the way back to Eightfold Coffee on your right!
